REGENERATE THE WORLD

Women & Climate: Stories from the Ashes

My generation is going to feel the full impact of the climate crisis, both in unraveling ecosystems and in the human death, displacement, and relationships that change as a result of climate instability. After attending Climate Week NYC alongside the Global Centre for Climate Mobility, I was inspired to seek out the human stories of the intersection between women, socioeconomic inequality, and climate justice. That is why, beginning in the ashes of the Los Angeles fires, I am directing a short film to do just that.

As we grapple with domestic and global polarization, as we approach a threshold of irreparable damage to our earth - I would argue we need wild beauty now more than ever.

In 2022, I became a Youth Ambassador for the Wild Beauty Foundation. Since then, I have delivered speeches to Congress, written opinion pieces, co-organized protests, and become the ending of the award-winning documentary Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West: all aimed at protecting the place of wild horses on our public lands, redefining the systems that govern them, calling out the corruption of powerful lobbies that jeopardize their existence, and ensuring the tonic of wildness for my generation and all those to come.

Camp Constelación was born out of a lifetime of service work in the Haitian sugarcane communities (bateyes) of the Dominican Republic and the belief that if we can ignite stars, we can shift universes. Each year, we tell the story of someone who has defied the odds of poverty and immigration status to serve the Haitian community and work towards equal opportunity for all. Directing both the program and the play, I have received more than I could possibly give from the extraordinary young leaders we work with. Their light is resilient, it has changed my life and it will change the world.

BUTTERFLY: Ambassador of Change

While butterflies are associated with the hope of seeing color in the aftermath of a storm, or the miracle of migration, to me they are also an ambassador for transformation. Both the morphing from the stage of caterpillar to chrysalis to flight, and the transformation that enact in our atmosphere through the motion of their wings. I identify strongly with the butterfly, in a perpetual state of growth, and seek to harness the energy in our atmosphere to make change.

POLITICAL CLIMATE CHANGE – Our hands cannot freeze while our lips speak fire. This ground can only survive if we stay grounded.
